Frequently Asked Questions

  • When is the Hopkins C.A.R.E.S. Symposium held?
The Hopkins C.A.R.E.S. Symposium is usually held the last Thursday in July of each year.
  • I am not a part of any of the programs that participate in the Hopkins C.A.R.E.S. Symposium. Is it possible for me to participate in the symposium anyway?
Due to limited space, we are unable to accommodate this request. Only students who are a part of the listed programs are able to participate in the symposium.
  • I will be presenting a poster at the symposium. What poster dimensions should I use?
    36” x 42”, portrait format.
  • I will be doing a podium (oral) presentation. What format does this presentation take and how long will I have to speak?
Podium presentations are generally presented via PowerPoint (PPT). Students have approximately 10 minutes (including Q&A) to present their research. It is important for students to bring their PPT on a flash drive. The technology team (located in the back of the auditorium) will need to upload your PPT by 9:30 am on the morning of the presentation.
  • Is it possible to do both a poster presentation and a podium (oral) presentation at the symposium?
Yes, it is possible to do both. See your program director (or administrator) for information on how to participate in both types of presentations.
  • I am interested in sharing my background story at the symposium. How can I do this?
Interested students must audition before the Hopkins C.A.R.E.S. Planning Committee. From the auditions, the committee will select up to 7 students to share their background stories at the symposium. See your program director (or administrator) for more information.
  • Who is able to attend the Hopkins C.A.R.E.S. Symposium?
All are welcome to attend. There is no registration.
